Denino’s Pizzeria & Tavern: A Taste of Authentic Italian Pizza & More in Staten Island, NY

The guy at the order window had a New York accent. I felt reassured about giving this place a try. They're from Staten Island. I'm from Queens. I had the lunch special - two slices and a drink. I had plain slices; no parm, and no crushed red pepper - to give the pizza a proper assessment. It was a perfect NY slice. Sturdy undercarriage for a good fold. Tasted like it cooked in a traditional pizza oven - not the chain restaurant conveyor ovens. The dough had a good flavor and balance of crispy and chewy. Flavorful sauce and the right amount of cheese. I'll be sure to stop by again next time I'm in the neighborhood!

Soooo we just went to @deninosthousandoaks. Many years ago I spent a lot of time in Staten Island and I went a ton of times to the original Denino’s so I knew what their pizza was all about. Fast forward to this past week & I literally heard that a T.O. location had recently opened up and I got REALLY excited. And let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! This place is on point and it has the exact same crust. It’s unbelievable. GO!!! Not kidding. By the way, Greg Leone who also owns Leone’s Italian Ices (which is right near Denino’s), is a terrific guy. We spoke for at least 45 minutes about pizza (of course), S.I., music and his businesses. It was a real treat getting to know him and his passion for pizza done RIGHT! The staff was great as well. Oh and we got the the Garbage and Buffalo Chicken pizza pies. And I just have to say one AGAIN…DAMN! THAT Crust!!!

The pizza was good, not amazing. They messed up on my order and prepared the wrong type of pizza, so I wasn't eating something that I particularly wanted. The crust was decent, the sauce was good, and the cheese/toppings were of good quality. Had I gotten what I ordered, my experience might have been different, so I'll try this place again later and update my review. For the record, they offered to make me a replacement pizza which I would have accepted if I had time to wait, so instead, they gave me a refund.

This is the most delicious pizza I have ever had. I can’t believe how lucky we are to have them open in Thousand Oaks. The community should stand in line for this pizza and give them the business they deserve.

I'm born and bred in Brooklyn so let's be real, California pizza will never be like NYC pizza. But flying to NYC every weekend is not ideal. So this place is the next best thing. It is definitely the best NYC style pizza I have had in SoCal. Crust is crispy, fold in half kind of crust. The vodka pizza was okay - something missing about that sauce but still good. The margherita pizza was delicious. They don't sell by the slices. They do a two slice and drink deal. You can also buy a pie and do half half. They also have an after school deal and gluten free option. The atmosphere inside is not very inviting and definitely doesn't have the NYC pizza store vibe. You order from a window outside and We were able to sit inside to eat our pizza. The entire store is surrounded by glass windows but they are frosted 3/4 of the way so it doesn't allow you to see what's going on from the outside. Which makes me reluctant to even want to try this place if I was driving by. Hopefully in the summer they open up those doors or something. The nice perk about this place is just next door, there is an Italian ice place where you can get spumoni. If you have a NYC pizza craving and in this area, definitely stop by. But if you are looking for a cozy date night out, this isn't the place unless maybe if you are eating outside.

Delicious!!! The pizza was thin and crispy and the cheese stretched! Definitely NY pizza on the West Coast! The calamari was dusted lightly and cooked to perfection! The zeppoli were hot and crispy just like my Nonna made them! Can’t wait to try other items on the menu!

My friend that grew up in New York told me about this place, and they just happen to open one here in Thousand Oaks. The pizza is delicious! I am looking forward to trying some of the appetizers when I go back. There is no indoor seating and the bathroom situation needs to be improved because you cannot lock the door behind you currently. I am sure they will address this soon as we made them aware of that.
